Women’s Hoops Earns Fourth-Straight Win, Bests Plymouth State 69-45
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's basketball team collected its fourth victory in a row with a 69-45 win over Plymouth State Monday evening at the Lahue Athletic Center.
The Lions improve to 4-0 on the year with the victory while the Panthers fall to 1-2 overall.
Alondra Jimenez (Santa Barbara, Calif.) poured in a game-high 16 points and dished out seven assists. Sydni Oviatt (Fruit Heights, Utah) and Sophia Torres (Fort Mohave, Ariz.) both notched 13 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Te'yalla Simpson (Fairfield, Texas) chipped in with six points and seven boards off the bench.
The home team established a seven-point lead with 5:19 left to play in the first quarter, 12-5, as Oviatt knocked down a jump shot.
The visitors trimmed the deficit to 17-15 on a bucket by Halie Hurd in the final seconds of the frame.
Eastern Nazarene chalked up the first nine points of the second period to grab a 26-15 advantage with 6:32 on the clock.
The Lions extended their lead to 39-22 with 2:09 remaining in the second quarter as Jimenez sank a baseline-jumper.
The hosts held a 39-26 advantage at the halftime break after shooting 48.6% from the floor in the first half while limiting Plymouth State to 32.1% shooting.
Eastern Nazarene widened the gap to 24 points on a basket by Torres with 5:53 to go in the third frame.
The Lions sported a 20-point advantage, 52-32, heading into the final quarter.
Eastern Nazarene stretched its margin to 29 as Simpson converted two free throw attempts with 3:04 remaining, 65-36.
The Lions concluded the contest with a field-goal percentage of 45.3% despite a 4-for-22 effort from beyond the arc. The Panthers shot 28.8% from the floor and 20% from three-point range on the night.
Sabrina Vlahovic paced Plymouth State with nine points while Hurd added eight points and Alessia Salzillo netted seven points.
