Strong Finish Propels Women’s Hoops Past Wentworth, 66-43
BOSTON, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's basketball team used a fourth-quarter outburst to power past Wentworth 66-43 Tuesday evening.
The Lions climb to 3-0 on the year with the win while the Leopards fall to 0-2 overall.
Alondra Jimenez (Santa Barbara, Calif.) led all scorers with 23 points while also posting eight rebounds, five assists, and four steals. Sophia Torres (Fort Mohave, Ariz.) notched her second double-double of the season as she netted 16 points and gathered 11 boards. Sydni Oviatt (Fruit Heights, Utah) chipped in with nine points and five steals.
The visitors started the game with seven-consecutive points and outscored the home team 18-6 in the first quarter.
Eastern Nazarene clung to a 26-22 edge at the break as Wentworth finished the second period with a 9-0 run.
The Leopards leveled the contest at 30-30 with 6:05 remaining in the third and closed out the quarter with a 10-9 edge to own a one-point lead heading into the fourth frame, 40-39.
An explosive 25-0 flurry spanning nearly eight minutes vaulted the Lions into the lead, 64-40.
Eastern Nazarene concluded the contest with a field-goal percentage of 38.7% while connecting on just 4-of-21 from behind the arc. Wentworth shot 22.6% from the floor on the night and 28.6% from three-point range.
Maddy Foster poured in 15 points and grabbed 11 rebounds off the bench to pace the Leopards while Kayla Kelley tallied 11 points.
