Women’s Basketball Downs Daniel Webster, 84-49, to Begin New Year
QUINCY, Mass.- In its first game of the 2015 calendar year, the Eastern Nazarene College women's basketball team dominated Daniel Webster College from wire to wire en route to an 84-49 victory Saturday afternoon at the Lahue Physical Education Center.
The Lions improve to 2-7 on the season with the win while the loss pushes the Eagles to 0-7 overall.
Katy Teare (Frazier Park, Calif.) notched her second career double-double to lead the home team. The sophomore came off the bench to score a game-high 18 points and grab 10 rebounds.
Nicole Greer (Odenton, Md.) finished with 14 points and six boards. Jaysa Cooper (Frisco, Texas) posted career-highs of 11 points and eight rebounds in the win. Mhiah Vickers (Westlake Village, Calif.) chipped in with 10 points while Jasmine Mata (Santa Barbara, Calif.) added nine points and three assists.
Eastern Nazarene knocked down five of its first seven field-goal attempts to start the game on a 12-2 run.
The Lions stretched the margin to 20 points with 9:24 left to play in the opening frame as Greer slung a quick pass to Kristina Kaczmarek (Chatsworth, Calif.) under the hoop for an easy lay-in, 29-9.
Eastern Nazarene controlled a 19-point advantage at the half, leading Daniel Webster 44-25.
Greer paced the Lions with eight points in the opening period while Mata poured in seven points off the bench.
The home side shot a sizzling 51.5% from the floor in the first frame while connecting on 2-of-8 attempts from beyond the arc. The visitors were limited to 25.6% shooting from the field in the first half.
Eastern Nazarene maintained a double-digit lead throughout the second stanza.
The Lions widened the gap to 43 points with less than three minutes remaining in the game as Cooper converted a pair of free throws, 82-39.
The Eagles outscored the hosts 10-2 in the final two minutes, including netting the final five points of the contest.
Eastern Nazarene patrolled the paint on the afternoon with 44 points inside the key while allowing 14 points. The Lions produced 26 points off of turnovers while the visitors registered eight. The home team's bench turned in 50 points in the victory.
Kayla Free paced Daniel Webster with 17 points while Ashley England tallied 14 points.
The Lions finished with a field-goal percentage of 45.9% while draining just three triples on 16 attempts on the day. The Eagles were held to 28.6% shooting in the contest and 22.2% shooting from the perimeter.
