Women’s Basketball Falls to Roger Williams, 75-51
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene women's basketball absorbed a 75-51 loss at home to Roger Williams Tuesday night.
The decision pushes the Lions to 4-7 on the season and 0-4 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference. The Hawks improve to 9-2 overall and remain unbeaten in league play with a 4-0 mark.
Ruby Leon (Fairfield, Calif.) paced the hosts with 14 points, five rebounds and four assists. Nicole Greer (Odenton, Md.) registered eight points and a team-high nine boards. Katy Teare (Frazier Park, Calif.) finished with eight points and five rebounds.
Roger Williams started the game with an 8-2 run in the opening 2:09.
Eastern Nazarene battled back with a 10-1 stretch to pull to within one, 11-10, with 14:18 left to play as Greer knocked down a trey.
The Hawks responded with five consecutive points to push the lead to 16-10 with 10:21 remaining in the half.
The Lions cut the deficit to three with 8:24 to go as Teare banked in a lay-up, 16-13.
The visitors stretched their advantage to nine with 3:04 to go in the first frame on a pair of free throws by Katie Lowerre, 26-17.
Eastern Nazarene trailed by six at halftime, 30-24.
Eastern Nazarene finished the first half with a field-goal percentage of 30.3% while connecting on 1-of-5 from beyond the arc. Roger Williams shot 34.5% from the floor in the opening half and was held to without a three-pointer.
Leon led the Lions with seven points and four boards. Greer notched five points and five rebounds while Jordan Grays (Elk Grove, Calif.) grabbed five boards and tallied three points.
The Hawks widened the margin to 13 with 11:46 left to play in the second period after an 8-0 run, 47-34.
Roger Williams maintained a double-digit lead throughout the remainder of the game. The visitors largest gap came with 2:28 on the clock as Angelica Ariola converted two free throws to increase the lead to 26, 70-44.
The home side capped off the contest with a 29.9% field-goal percentage and drained one trey on seven attempts. The Hawks shot 41.0% from the field on the evening and 16.7% from three-point range.
Roger Williams was led by Ariola with 18 points in the game while Kaitlyn Bovee and Ari Renwick finished in double-figures with 13 and 11 points, respectively.
