The loss drops the Lions to 7-5 overall and 3-3 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference. The Golden Bears improve to 7-7 on the year and 4-3 in league play with the result.
Ace Carradine (Honolulu, Hawaii) scored a team-high 16 points for the home side on the day. Mel Green (Annapolis, Md.) came off the bench and finished with 13 points and five rebounds. Shardae Brown (Waterbury, Conn.) hauled in a game-best 10 boards for Eastern Nazarene and Jordan Grays (Elk Grove, Calif.) registered five assists in the contest.
The Lions grabbed their first lead of the game 3:57 into the contest, 6-4, as Brown knocked down a jumper.
After Western New England cut the deficit to one, Eastern Nazarene posted six-straight points to go ahead by seven, 18-11, with 9:07 left to play.
The Golden Bears claimed a one-point edge with less than a minute remaining in the half, 26-25.
The visitors clung to a four-point advantage at halftime, 29-25.
Carradine paced the Lions at the break with 10 points while Green tallied six points off the bench. Abbie Tonello (Bourne, Mass.) grabbed a team-best six boards in the opening half.
Eastern Nazarene shot 36.7% in the first frame, including 2-of-7 from long range. Western New England drained 34.5% of its field-goal attempts in the opening stanza.
With 11:07 left to play in the second frame, the Lions knotted the score at 37-37 on a lay-up by Tonello.
The Golden Bears responded with seven unanswered points to capture a 44-37 advantage with 7:22 on the clock.
Western New England sank 14 free throws in the final 2:26 to seal the win.
The hosts concluded the contest with a field-goal percentage of 40.4% while shooting 23.1% from downtown. The visitors connected on 32.7% of their shot attempts in the game while converting 24-of-28 chances from the charity stripe.
Eastern Nazarene will continue CCC action as it travels north to battle the University of New England January 15.
