Bio

Leah Hampton recently completed her third season as head coach of the Eastern Nazarene softball program.

Hampton led the Lions to a 10-24 overall record and a 7-11 league record in 2013. Under her guidance, Eastern Nazarene reached the Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament for the second-straight season and suffered a narrow loss at Curry in the play-in game. Sam Losano and Kori Sorensen each earned All-Commonwealth Coast Conference honorable mention in the spring of 2013.

In 2012, Hampton guided the Lions to a 15-24 overall record with a 6-12 mark in the Commonwealth Coast Conference. ENC also returned to the CCC playoffs in 2012, highlighted by an upset-victory over Nichols in the first round.

Hampton has managed four All-Commonwealth Coast Conference athletes in her first two seasons. Carissa Cicolini received honorable mention in 2012 and Amber Burns, Bethany Greenfield and Taylor Fleming earned All-CCC honors in 2011.

In her first season as head coach, Hampton proved that she is more than capable of building a powerhouse program. After a successful 2010-2011 effort, Hampton is on the fast track, with her team and individual ENC players grabbing 18 school records from the record books. The team alone broke five, including most runs scored (180), runs batted in (153), putouts (628), assists (265) and best fielding percentage (.938). Her players flourished under her leadership, breaking 12 and tying one of ENC's individual softball records. These recently broken individual records fell in the categories of runs scored (broke individual season, and individual career), doubles (tied individual season, broke individual career), total bases (broke individual season, and individual career), batting average (individual career), games played (individual career), at bats (individual career), hits (individual career), home-runs (individual career), runs batted in (individual career) and stolen bases (individual career).

Before arriving at ENC, Hampton played and coached at Piedmont College (Demorest, GA). While coaching at Piedmont, Hampton helped another set of Lady Lions to reach a 29-12 record. The Piedmont Lions boasted 10 wins (10-2) in Great South Athletic Conference (GSAC) play, which awarded them the regular season league title. The team went on to win the GSAC tournament, sending them to the NCAA Division III South Regional tournament. Hampton mentored 13 GSAC All-Academic selections, six All-Conference honorees, six All-Freshmen picks (including the GSAC Freshman of the Year), and the 2010 GSAC Pitcher of the Year.

As a player at Piedmont, Hampton made an immediate impact on the field by earning a spot on the GSAC All-Freshman team. She went on to be a three-time member of the All-Academic team, and was selected three times to the All-American Academic team. Following her senior season, Hampton was chosen by her teammates to receive the Lady Lions Leadership Award.

After graduating Summa Cum Laude with her Bachelors degree in Business Administration in 2008, Hampton was inducted into Chi Alpha Sigma, the National College Athlete Honor Society, which recognizes student-athletes for their academic and athletic achievements. She remained at Piedmont and earned her Master’s degree in Managerial Leadership in 2010.

In addition to her coaching responsibilities, Hampton teaches Physical Education in the Movement Arts Department at ENC.

“I hope to teach each young lady how to excel on and off the field and help them grow in their faith while they mature as athletes,” Hampton said.

Hampton is married to ENC baseball head coach, B.J. Hampton. They reside in Quincy with their dog, Colby.
