Bailey Olaveson, Jennelle Munoz Sweep NECC Softball Weekly Honors
MANSFIELD, Mass.- Eastern Nazarene College sophomore Bailey Olaveson (Lakeside, Calif.) has been named the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Player of the Week and freshman Jennelle Munoz (Lake Elsinore, Calif.) has been tabbed the NECC Pitcher of the Week and Rookie of the Week, announced the league office Monday. Olaveson picks up her second NECC Player of the Week nod of the season while Munoz collects her second NECC Pitcher of the Week accolade and first NECC Rookie of the Week honor.
The tandem helped the Lions to a 5-1 record on the week to wrap up the regular season. Eastern Nazarene swept conference doubleheaders against Elms and Lesley to lock up the No. 1 seed in the NECC Tournament.
Olaveson notched 14 hits on the week, including four doubles and one grand slam, while adding 11 RBIs and seven runs scored. The sophomore batted .700 in six games with a slugging percentage of 1.050.
This spring, Olaveson leads the conference with a .541 batting average while ranking second with six home runs and third with 31 RBIs.
Munoz pitched four complete games and went 4-0 in the pitcher's circle with 15 strikeouts. Offensively, she chipped in with four hits, four RBIs, and four runs scored to hit .333 on the week.
This season, Munoz paces the league with a 12-1 record and a 1.73 ERA while ranking tied for fourth with 47 strikeouts. At the plate, she has contributed 21 base hits, 17 runs scored, and 10 RBIs to go with a .382 batting average.
Eastern Nazarene concluded the regular season with a 21-5 overall record to go with a 14-4 mark in league action. The top-seeded Lions will square off against fourth-seeded Becker in the opening round of the NECC Tournament May 7.
