Men’s Volleyball’s Alejandro Garcia Fernandez Collects Third-Straight NEVC Player of the Week Award
SMITHFIELD, R.I.- Senior Alejandro Garcia Fernandez (San Juan, P.R.) of the Eastern Nazarene College men's volleyball team was named the New England Volleyball Conference Player of the Week for the fifth time this season, as the league announced its weekly awards Tuesday.
He posted 20 kills, five digs, four aces, and a pair of blocks to propel the Lions to a 3-2 upset win over No. 7 Springfield. The reverse-sweep marked the program's first-ever victory over a nationally-ranked opponent.
This season, Garcia Fernandez ranks fourth in NCAA Division III with 0.75 aces-per-set. He also leads the league with 4.34 kills-per-set and ranks fourth in the conference with 243 total kills on the year.
Eastern Nazarene sports a 14-6 overall record with a 4-1 mark in the NEVC. The Lions host Endicott April 4 in a crucial conference clash.
