Alejandro Garcia Fernandez Named NECC Men’s Volleyball Player of the Year, Jacob Zarges Earns All-NECC Second Team Honors
MANSFIELD, Mass.- Sophomore Alejandro Garcia Fernandez (Quincy, Mass.) of the Eastern Nazarene College men's volleyball team has been tabbed the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Player of the Year and rookie Jacob Zarges (Quincy, Mass.) garnered All-NECC second team honors, announced the league office Tuesday. Junior Chris Jaskiewicz (Oakdale, Conn.) was also selected to the NECC Del Malloy Sportsmanship Team.
Garcia Fernandez becomes the first NECC Player of the Year in program history and first two-time All-NECC first team honoree.
Garcia Fernandez topped the conference with 437 kills on the year and 0.61 aces per set. He ranks third in the nation with 4.91 kills per set and 10.21 attacks per set. In 24 matches played, Garcia Fernandez has also chipped in with 127 digs and a team-high 54 total blocks.
In conference matches, Garcia Fernandez has notched 129 kills with 28 digs and 23 aces.
Zarges ranks third on the team with 120 kills while adding 98 digs, 24 aces, and 19 blocks. In league action, he has tallied 45 kills and 34 digs.
Jaskiewicz has seen action in three matches this season and collected one block.
Eastern Nazarene owns a 13-12 overall record and posted a 3-3 mark in the NECC this season. The Lions clinched the No. 3 seed in the NECC Tournament and will host sixth-seeded Sage in the opening round.
