Alejandro Garcia Fernandez Named AVCA National Player of the Week
LEXINGTON, Ky.- Sophomore Alejandro Garcia Fernandez (San Juan, Puerto Rico) of the Eastern Nazarene College men's volleyball team has been selected as the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) National Player of the Week, announced the organization office Tuesday.
Garcia Fernandez posted 24 kills while adding nine digs, five service aces, and three total blocks as Eastern Nazarene edged SUNY Poly 3-2 in the first NECC match of the campaign. In the Lions' 3-2 loss to SUNY Potsdam, Garcia Fernandez set a new NCAA Division III single-match record with 43 kills to go with five digs, and a pair of aces.
This season, he leads the nation with 5.03 kills per set and paces the conference with 302 kills.
Eastern Nazarene sports a 10-7 overall record with a 1-1 mark in the New England Collegiate Conference. The Lions return to the court March 15 to host Endicott.
