Men’s Tennis Defeats Regis, Advances to Second-Straight GNAC Championship Match
QUINCY, Mass.- The top-seeded Eastern Nazarene College men's tennis team downed No. 4 seed Regis 5-0 Saturday afternoon at the ENC Tennis Courts in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Tournament semifinals.
The Lions improve to 10-5 on the year while punching their ticket to their second-consecutive GNAC title match and fourth-straight conference tournament final. The Pride finishes the season with a 7-9 overall record with the result.
The home team collected three doubles victories to capture a 3-0 lead.
Diego Rodriguez (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) and Carlos Sanchez (Malaga, Spain) cruised past Mitchell Weiner and Sebastian Torres 8-2 at the No. 1 doubles position.
Iago Alcover (Mallorca, Spain) and Baldo Karinja (Zadar, Croatia) outlasted Andrew Bienvenu and Lenny Tam 7-3 in a tie-breaker to claim the No. 2 doubles match 8-7.
Simao Nobre (Lisbon, Portugal) and Avelino Parrondo (Madrid, Spain) rolled to an 8-0 win at the third spot over Federico Lavini-Ayalla and Brevin Frankel.
Eastern Nazarene posted two singles victories to clinch the match, 5-0.
Sanchez earned a 6-1, 6-2 win at the No. 4 singles slot before Nobre prevailed 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 3 position over Weiner to lock up the Lions' fifth-straight victory.
Up next, top-seeded Eastern Nazarene hosts No. 2 seed Colby-Sawyer May 7 in the GNAC Championship match.
