Men’s Tennis Defeats Colby-Sawyer, 8-1
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's tennis team posted an 8-1 victory over Colby-Sawyer Friday afternoon at the ENC Tennis Courts.
The Lions improve to 8-5 on the year and 2-0 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference with the win. The Chargers drop to 8-9 overall and 2-1 in league play with the result.
The home team picked up a pair of doubles victories to seize a 2-1 edge.
Diego Rodriguez (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) and Carlos Sanchez (Malaga, Spain) downed Julius Lowman and Aidan Jensen 8-4 at the top doubles spot.
Carlos Gallardo (Tulua, Colombia) and SImao Nobre (Lisbon, Portugal) rolled past Alex Edelmann and Charles Graffius 8-1 at the No. 3 position.
Iago Alcover (Mallorca, Spain) and Baldo Karinja (Zadar, Croatia) suffered an 8-6 setback at the second slot to Jan Ullmann and John Turner.
Eastern Nazarene swept the singles matches to clinch its second conference victory of the season.
Rodriguez topped Lowman 6-4, 6-0 at the No. 1 singles position. Alcover downed Ullmann at the No. 2 spot 6-3, 6-4.
Nobre earned a 6-3, 6-3 win at the third slot over Jensen while Sanchez cruised past Turner 6-1, 6-1 at the fourth position to collect his team-leading ninth singles victory.
Diego Torres (Weston, Fla.) breezed by Edelmann 6-1, 6-1 at the fifth spot. Avelino Parrondo (Madrid, Spain) blanked Cohl Schusler 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 6 singles slot.
