Men’s Tennis Downed at Nationally-Ranked Ave Maria, 7-0
AVE MARIA, Fla.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's tennis team endured a 7-0 loss at Ave Maria Sunday afternoon.
The Lions sink to 5-3 on the year with the setback while the Gyrenes, ranked No. 17 in NAIA, improve to 6-4 overall.
Diego Rodriguez (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) and Carlos Sanchez (Malaga, Spain) fell 6-2 at the No. 1 doubles spot to Fernando Orihuela and Sebastian Grijalva.
Iago Alcover (Mallorca, Spain) and Baldo Karinja (Zadar, Croatia) dropped a 6-3 decision at the second position to Carlos Thireau and Felipe Amorim.
Carlos Gallardo (Tulua, Colombia) and Simao Nobre (Lisbon, Portugal) suffered a 6-2 setback to Graham Gibbs and Adriel Bousquet at the third slot.
Rodriguez fell 6-3, 6-4 at the top singles position to Orihuela while Alcover absorbed a 6-1, 6-0 loss at the No. 2 spot to Grijalva.
Nobre dropped a 6-1, 6-0 decision to Thireau at the No. 3 slot and Sanchez fell 6-1, 6-2 at the fourth position to Amorim.
Avelino Parrondo (Madrid, Spain) suffered a 6-3, 6-4 loss in the fifth singles match against Bousquet. Diego Torres (Weston, Fla.) dropped a 6-2, 6-2 decision at the No. 6 spot to Gibbs.
Up next, Eastern Nazarene will visit St. Thomas (Fla.) March 8.
