Men’s Tennis Knocks Off Nichols, 6-3
DUDLEY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's tennis team tallied its third-straight win Tuesday, triumphing 6-3 at Nichols.
The Lions improve to 3-0 on the year with the victory while the Bison slip to 3-2 overall.
The guests garnered a 2-1 advantage heading into singles action after claiming a pair of doubles wins.
Diego Rodriguez (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) and Carlos Sanchez (Malaga, Spain) downed Moritz Kern and Steven Kuang 8-5 at the No. 2 position.
Carlos Gomez (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) and Avelino Parrondo (Madrid, Spain) topped Sam Kluger and Arther Ferreira 8-5 at the third spot.
Simao Nobre (Lisbon, Portugal) and Baldo Karinja (Zadar, Croatia) fell 8-0 at the top doubles slot to Giacomo Ghitti and Santiago Perez.
Eastern Nazarene notched four singles victories to lock up its third win in a row.
Nobre outlasted Kern in a three-set battle at the No. 2 singles position. After dropping the first frame 6-2, Nobre rebounded to capture the second set 6-1 before prevailing 6-3 in the third.
Parrondo posted a three-set victory at the No. 5 slot over Kluger. Parrondo seized the opening set 6-3 and Kluger responded with a 6-3 decision in the second frame. In the deciding third frame, Parrondo triumphed 6-4.
Gomez earned a 6-3, 6-4 win at the No. 3 position over Perez while Sanchez defeated Diego Martinez 6-1, 6-2 at the fourth spot.
Iago Alcover (Mallorca, Spain) and Karinja each suffered straight-set losses at the No. 1 and 6 singles slots, respectively.
