Men’s Soccer Earns Four All-NECC Nods; Vargas, Ferreira Claim NECC Major Awards
MANSFIELD, Mass.- Bryan Vargas (San Jose, Costa Rica) and Tyler Ferreira (Berkley, Mass.) headlined the Eastern Nazarene College men's soccer team's four All-New England Collegiate Conference selections, as the league office announced its postseason awards Wednesday.
Vargas was tabbed NECC Co-Player of the Year while Ferreira claimed NECC Goalkeeper of the Year honors. Michael Frotscher (Tramin, Italy) and Manuel Vibot (Valladolid, Spain) joined Vargas and Ferreira on the All-NECC Team while Brock Pease (Marshfield, Mass.) earned a spot on the NECC Del Malloy Sportsmanship Team.
Vargas leads the conference with 19 points and eight goals on the season. The junior striker has started 18 matches and has added three assists. Vargas has netted a pair of game-winning tallies this fall and is 1-for-1 from the penalty spot.
Ferreira sports a league-best 0.96 goals-against average in 10 contests. He owns a 6-2-1 record with three clean sheets to his credit.
Frotscher ranks third on the squad with nine points on the campaign. In 18 matches, he has scored three goals and dished out three assists.
Vibot has appeared in 18 contests and started 17 while contributing to Eastern Nazarene's defense which has allowed just 1.18 goals-against this season. On the offensive end, Vibot has chipped in with one assist.
Pease has seen action in 17 games and started 16 while providing stability on the Lions' backline.
Eastern Nazarene posted a 12-6-1 overall record in the regular season. The Lions compiled a 5-0-1 mark in league action to capture the NECC regular-season title and the top seed in the NECC Tournament. Eastern Nazarene will host fourth-seeded Lesley in the NECC Tournament semifinals November 3.
