WEST HARTFORD, Conn.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's soccer team notched its seventh-straight win Wednesday afternoon, downing the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) 2-1 on the road. With the victory, fourth-year head coach Mark Bell earned his 200th career win and 20th victory with the Lions.
The Lions improve to 7-1-0 on the season with the result while the Blue Jays dip to 5-2-0 overall.
The home team raced ahead 1-0 on a goal in the 18th minute. Michael Torres netted his first marker of the year as Daniel Castro provided the assist.
The visitors responded in the 19th minute to level the match at 1-1. Sunil Lepcha (Charlotte, N.C.) picked up his first tally of the fall.
Eastern Nazarene claimed a 2-1 edge in the 34th minute as Sidney Cardoso (Brockton, Mass.) buried his first goal of the season.
The Lions held a narrow 7-6 advantage in first-half shots while the Blue Jays earned a pair of corner kicks in the opening stanza.
Neither squad found the back of the cage in the second frame as Eastern Nazarene extended its winning-streak to seven matches in a row.
Junior Tyler Ferreira (Berkley, Mass.) posted five saves in his sixth start of the season between the pipes.
The Lions concluded the contest with nine shots while Saint Joseph managed 10 attempts on the day.
