Men’s Soccer Absorbs 3-0 Loss to Nichols Friday
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's soccer team suffered a 3-0 setback to Nichols Friday evening at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
The Lions drop to 5-10-2 on the season and 1-7-0 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference with the result. The Bison improve to 8-6-2 overall and 4-3-1 in league action with the victory.
Friday's match marked the Eastern Nazarene men's soccer team's first annual "Night of Nets". The goal of the event is to raise money to purchase insecticide-treated bed nets in sub-Saharan African, aiding in World Vision's efforts to eradicate malaria.
The guests got on the board less than 10 minutes into the contest, grabbing a one-goal lead in the ninth minute. Tyler Brenner laced a right-footed shot into the lower left corner of the cage from just beyond the top of the box to collect his second tally of the season.
Nichols doubled its advantage in the 35th minute, 2-0, as Mike Kelley buried his third score of the year. Brenner dribbled down to the endline before slipping a pass towards the center of the box for Kelley, running unmarked in the penalty area, to tuck into the back of the net.
Eastern Nazarene registered 11 first-half shots while the Bison fired 14 in the opening stanza.
The visitors tacked on their third goal of the night in the 49th minute as William Aldrich unleashed a long-ranged, left-footed shot to notch his fourth marker of the fall.
The Lions finished with 19 shots in the game while Nichols manufactured 23 on the night. Ian Carson (San Antonio, Texas) fired six shots to lead the team while Andrew Nelson (Burtonsville, Md.) attempted four.
Rookie Victor Mendoza (Cathedral, Calif.) recorded nine saves for Eastern Nazarene.
Up next, the Lions cap off the 2016 season at home against Curry October 25. Eastern Nazarene will hold "Senior Night" festivities prior to kick off.
