QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's soccer team played to a 0-0 tie against Becker Tuesday evening at Veterans Memorial Stadium in non-conference action.
The Lions move to 5-3-2 on the year while the Hawks progress to 0-8-1 overall with the result.
Neither team could find the back of the net through 90 minutes of action with Eastern Nazarene holding a 20-3 advantage in shot at the end of regulation.
The home team went down to 10 players on the field as the referee issued a red card in the waning seconds of regulation.
Becker nearly tallied a golden goal in the first overtime period as Calvin Kamuhangi floated a shot that went through the goalkeeper's hands but Peter Ostergren (Pasadena, Md.) cleared the ball off the goal line to keep the shutout bid.
Eastern Nazarene finished with a 23-4 margin in shots on the night.
Victor Mendoza (Cathedral, Calif.) and Jameson MacFarland (Jacksonville, Fla.) combined between the posts for the Lions to notch a clean sheet. Devin Ramos made seven saves in net for the Hawks in the contest.
"We played well tonight in the defensive third and the middle third but we need to work harder in the attacking third of the field. There were definitely some positives to take away from tonight's game but also some areas that we need to improve," said head coach Mark Bell.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene returns to the pitch October 1 as it travels to the Ocean State to square off against Salve Regina in a key conference match.
