Chamoun Strikes Twice as Men’s Soccer Tops Pine Manor, 3-1
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's soccer team notched a 3-1 victory over Pine Manor Wednesday evening at Veterans Memorial Stadium behind a two-goal effort by Nabil Chamoun (Walpole, Mass.).
The Lions leap to 4-3-1 on the year while the Gators slide to 1-5-0 overall with the result.
Eastern Nazarene got on the board in the 15th minute to claim a 1-0 lead. Andrew Nelson (Burtonsville, Md.) floated a cross from the left wing and Chamoun latched onto the end of the pass to knock in his second goal of the season.
Pine Manor pulled even in the 40th minute, 1-1. Cesar Garcia buried his first tally of the fall as he lofted a free kick into the back of the net from 40 yards away from goal.
The Lions regained a one-goal advantage just moments later in the 42nd minute, 2-1. Jannon Smith (Huntington, N.Y.) hammered home his second marker of the fall. David Eddings (Endicott, N.Y.) pushed the ball past the onrushing goalkeeper towards Smith after a free kick delivery into the box by Jacob Mason (Southport, England).
The home team fired five shots in the first frame while the visitors attempted nine.
Eastern Nazarene widened the gap to 3-1 on Chamoun's second score of the night in the 65th minute. Nelson split a pair of defenders with a pass, springing Chamoun down the right side. The sophomore dribbled in on goal before slipping a shot inside the far post for his third goal of the season.
The Lions finished with eight attempts on the night while the Gators registered 18 shots.
Rookie Victor Mendoza (Cathedral, Calif.) collected his first collegiate win between the posts as he stopped six shots in the game.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene resumes league play with a road tilt at the University of New England September 24.
