BIDDEFORD, Maine- The Eastern Nazarene College men's soccer team dropped a crucial Commonwealth Coast Conference match at the University of New England 3-0 Saturday afternoon.
The Lions slip to 8-8-1 overall and 0-7-1 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference with the result. The Nor'Easters improve to 4-14 on the year and 1-7-0 in league action with the win.
After a scoreless first half, the home team got on the board in the 54th minute to grab a 1-0 lead. Wil Bushey headed in his second goal of the season off of a cross from the right side by Tyler Garnick.
The University of New England extended its advantage to 2-0 in the 57th minute. Conor McCarthy knocked in his first tally of the year after Ryan Stephens' cross was deflected by the visitors' goalkeeper.
The Nor'easters tacked on their third score of the contest in the 59th minute. Nick Paine headed home his second marker of the fall after a delivery from the left corner by Garnick.
Eastern Nazarene finished the game with seven shots while the hosts recorded 22 attempts.
Joao Costa (Framingham, Mass.) and Jacob Mason (Southport, England) each fired two shots on the day for the visitors.
David Eddings (Endicott, N.Y.) started in net for the Lions and turned aside six shots. Jameson MacFarland (Jacksonville, Fla.) worked the final 30 minutes of the contest between the pipes and recorded six saves.
Nate Diffin stopped five shots in goal for the University of New England to collect his first shutout of the season.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene wraps up the 2015 campaign October 27 at home against Wentworth.
