Men’s Soccer Stymied by Salve Regina on Homecoming, 6-0
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's soccer team suffered a 6-0 setback to Salve Regina Saturday afternoon to wrap up Homecoming festivities at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
The Lions slide to 8-7-0 on the season and 0-6-0 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference. The Seahawks improve to 5-8-1 overall and 3-3-0 in league action.
The visitors opened the scoring in the 21st minute to seize a 1-0 lead. Evan Dudney connected on a full volley from the top of the box that zipped into the back of the net for his fifth goal of the season.
Salve Regina doubled its advantage to 2-0 in the 26th minute as Kyle Knoth converted a penalty kick to pick up his second tally of the year.
The Seahawks increased the margin to 3-0 in the 38th minute. Nolan Brady booted home his seventh marker of the fall from beyond the top of the penalty area and Nathaniel Crocker recorded an assist.
Eastern Nazarene fired seven shots in the first half and Salve Regina registered nine.
The guests added a score in the 55th minute to push their lead to 4-0. Brady buried his second of the game with a long-range effort and Crocker picked up his second assist on the day.
The Seahawks tacked on their fifth goal of the match in the 56th minute as Brady completed the hat trick with his ninth tally of the season. Knoth slotted a pass down the right flank into the right side of the penalty box and Brady poked the ball into the left corner.
Salve Regina capped off the scoring in the 81st minute. John Julian tapped in his second marker of the year after Peter Melo crossed the ball across the six-yard box.
Eastern Nazarene finished with 13 shots and sophomore Andrew Nelson (Burtonsville, Md.) fired a team-high five shots. The Seahawks posted 19 shots in the win.
Jameson MacFarland (Jacksonville, Fla.) racked up seven saves in net for the Lions. Michael Payan made three saves between the posts for the away team and Bryan McCormack preserved the clean sheet as he manned the cage for the final 17:23.
Up next, Eastern Nazarene will look to claim its first conference win of the season with a pivotal road clash at Curry October 21.
