Men’s Soccer Drops 4-0 Decision at Gordon Saturday
WENHAM, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's soccer team suffered a 4-0 setback at Gordon Saturday afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference action.
The Lions sink to 7-6-0 on the year and 0-5-0 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference. The Fighting Scots improve to 9-2-0 overall and 4-1-0 in league play with the win.
The home team got on the board early with a strike less than two minutes into the match as Tyler Modzeleski collected his second goal of the season. After a turnover in the Eastern Nazarene defensive third, Modzeleski found the back of the net with a right-footed shot.
Gordon doubled its advantage to 2-0 in the 24th minute on Modzeleski's second tally of the match. Ian Burkhart set up Modzeleski's third of the season.
The Fighting Scots were awarded a penalty kick just over a minute into the second half but Eastern Nazarene goalkeeper Jameson MacFarland (Jacksonville, Fla.) denied Caleb Cole's attempt.
The hosts added a score in the 53rd minute to widen the gap to 3-0. Cole, the reigning Commonwealth Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Year, notched his eighth marker of the year as he knocked in a shot from the center of the box off of a feed by Modzeleski.
Gordon tacked on its fourth goal of the game with 29 minutes on the clock. Evan Crocker bagged his fifth tally of the fall after an assist by Joshua Cochran.
The Lions managed just three shots on the day with two attempts on target while the Fighting Scots fired 24 shots. Rookie Joao Costa (Framingham, Mass.) recorded all three shots for Eastern Nazarene in the game.
MacFarland registered seven saves between the pipes for the guests. Josh Spoonhour and Aaron Miller combined to secure Gordon's fourth shutout of the season and seventh-straight victory.
