Men’s Soccer Falls to Western New England, 6-1
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's soccer team dropped a 6-1 decision to Western New England Saturday evening under the lights at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
The Lions sink to 6-3-0 on the year and 0-3-0 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference with the result. The Golden Bears improve to 4-5-0 overall and remain unbeaten in league play with a 3-0-0 mark.
The visitors tallied three goals in a seven-minute span in the first half, starting with a marker in the 19th minute off the boot of Chad Burke. Burke buried his first goal of the season as he sent a loose ball into the back of the net.
In the 21st minute of play, Troy Remillard knocked in his own rebound to record his fifth tally of the fall for Western New England.
The Golden Bears netted their third goal of the opening stanza in the 26th minute. Scott Trautwein picked up his first score of the year and Luis Agrait and Colin MacDonald each earned assists.
Western New England tacked on its fourth goal of the night in the 51st minute on Burke's second strike of the contest.
The visitors added a score in the 63rd minute as MacDonald sent a low shot off of a direct free kick through traffic inside the box that trickled into right-side netting as he collected his second goal of the season.
The Golden Bears chalked up their sixth goal of the game in the 79th minute as Ryan Dickinson bagged his first tally of the year. Nick Liccardi set up Dickinson with a slotted pass to put Dickinson in on a one-on-one with the goalkeeper.
Eastern Nazarene got on the board in the 86th minute to cut the deficit to 6-1. David Eddings (Endicott, N.Y.) deposited his sixth marker of the season after a pair of one-touch passes by Joao Costa (Framingham, Mass.) and Connor Hudson-Bryant (Weymouth, Mass.) sprung Eddings in on goal alone.
The Lions managed eight shots in the match while Western New England finished with 23 attempts.
Jameson MacFarland (Jacksonville, Fla.) registered seven saves in net for the home side. Kevin Strobel stopped two shots between the posts for the guests.
