WORCESTER, Mass.- For the second consecutive match, the Eastern Nazarene College men's soccer team went to overtime after a 90-minute stalemate. The Lions emerged victorious at Clark Wednesday evening with a 1-0 result after Jacob Mason (Southport, England) netted the lone goal in the 108th minute.
Eastern Nazarene improves to 4-1-0 on the fall while Clark moves to 2-3-1 overall.
The two teams concluded regulation knotted at 0-0. The Lions registered 10 shots through 90 minutes of action while the Cougars generated 18 chances.
In the 107th minute, Clark was awarded a penalty kick but Lions' goalkeeper Jameson MacFarland (Jacksonville, Fla.) denied Pirro Tomco's attempt with a diving save to his right.
Moments later, Eastern Nazarene buried the game-winner as Mason deposited his third goal of the season, capitalizing on a counter-attack after fending off a corner kick. Andrew Nelson (Burtonsville, Md.) dribbled in on the Cougars' goalkeeper one-on-one on the right side before zipping a low cross to the far post. Mason raced in and slid to poke the ball into the wide open net for the game-winning tally.
MacFarland finished with nine saves between the pipes for the Lions.
The visitors recorded 13 shots on the night while the home side fired 23.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene resumes conference play with a road match at Roger Williams September 19.
