QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's soccer team was edged by Endicott 1-0 at Veterans Memorial Stadium Tuesday evening to close out the 2014 season.
The Lions finish with a 5-12-1 overall record and a 1-7-1 mark in the Commonwealth Coast Conference. The Gulls improve to 9-6-3 on the year and 4-2-3 in league action with the win.
The hosts nearly got on the board early in the contest but Pedro De Almeida (Cranston, R.I.) saw his long-range bid rebound off of the crossbar.
Eastern Nazarene registered six shots in a scoreless first half of play while Endicott attempted five. The Gulls held a 3-1 margin in corner kicks earned at halftime.
The visitors opened the scoring in the 72nd minute to go ahead 1-0. Endicott capitalized on a turnover by the Lions inside their own penalty area with Zach Rizzo firing a one-time shot into the bottom left corner of the cage from just beyond the 18-yard line to tally his fifth goal of the season.
Both squads finished the game with 10 total shots while the Gulls owned a 5-3 advantage in corners.
Chris Garcia (Gaithersburg, Md.) led the home team with four shots while Andrew Nelson (Burtonsville, Md.) and De Almeida each fired two.
Jameson MacFarland (Jacksonville, Fla.) stopped three shots between the pipes for Eastern Nazarene on the night. Alex Jorge made a pair of saves in the win for Endicott.
