WORCESTER, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene men's soccer team absorbed its first loss of the season Saturday afternoon, falling to Clark 3-0 in non-conference action.
The setback pushes the Lions to 2-1-0 overall while the Cougars improve to 2-2-0 on the year.
Despite combining for 21 shots in the first half, the two squads were level at 0-0 at the midway point of the match. Eastern Nazarene attempted eight shots in the opening stanza while Clark fired 13. Both squads claimed four corner kicks in the half.
The hosts got on the board in the 51st minute as Greg French rifled a direct free kick into the back of the cage for his first score of the season.
The Cougars added a goal in the 65th minute of play to extend their lead to 2-0. Nate Biedak notched his first marker of the year, an unassisted tally for the home side's second of the match.
Clark tacked on its third goal of the game in the 68th minute as French converted a penalty kick to pick up his second goal on the day.
Eastern Nazarene produced five shots in the second period to finish the afternoon with 13 total efforts. The Cougars concluded the game with 22 shots after generating nine in the second half.
Scott Hansen (Middletown Springs, Vt.) led the Lions with four shots and three attempts on goal while Will Campbell (Anchorage, Alaska) added a pair of shots with one on target.
Senior Jake Johnson (Mount Bethel, Pa.) was credited with six saves in the contest for the Lions.
