QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene men's soccer team absorbed a 1-0 loss to Salve Regina Wednesday evening at Veterans Memorial Stadium in the final match of the 2013 campaign.
The Lions conclude the season with a 3-14-0 overall record and a 1-8-0 mark in the Commonwealth Coast Conference. The Seahawks improve to 9-7-2 on the year and 5-3-1 in league action.
Despite the Seahawks holding a 13-2 advantage in shots at the midway point of the match, the two squads headed into the halftime intermission level at 0-0. Salve Regina earned all four corner kicks awarded in the opening period of play.
The visitors seized a 1-0 lead in the 51st minute as Evan Dudney buried his third goal of the season. Andrew Chenard delivered a cross into the penalty box and Dudney fired a half-volley into the left corner of the cage.
The hosts nearly equalized minutes later as Scott Hansen (Middletown Spring, Vt.) saw his glancing header ring off of the left post.
Eastern Nazarene fired four shots in the contest while Salve Regina recorded 26 attempts. The Seahawks drew eight corner kicks in the match while conceding none.
Junior netminder Jake Johnson (Mount Bethel, Pa.) stopped eight shots in goal for the Lions on the night. Jeffrey L'Heureux made one save between the posts for the Seahawks in the game.
Prior to the start of the contest, the Eastern Nazarene men's soccer program recognized its lone member of the Class of 2014, Ryan Piesco (Duxbury, Mass.). The Lions honored Piesco for his hard work and dedication over the past four years.
