Men’s Soccer Dealt 6-1 Loss at Undefeated Gordon
WENHAM, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene men's soccer dropped a 6-1 decision on the road Saturday afternoon at Gordon.
The Lions stumble to 1-8-0 overall and 0-3-0 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference with the loss. The Fighting Scots remain undefeated on the year, improving to 9-0-0 overall and 3-0-0 in the league.
Gordon opened the scoring in just the third minute of the match. Caleb Cole netted his second goal of the year to give the home team 1-0 lead. Evan Crocker recorded an assist on Cole's marker.
The Fighting Scots tacked on their second goal of the game in the 10th minute as Colten Corey headed in his second tally of the season off of a corner kick delivery from Kellen Kasiguran.
Eastern Nazarene was limited to one shot in the first half while Gordon fired 13.
The Fighting Scots added a score in the 58th minute to push their lead to 3-0. Andrew Vandervoort notched his ninth goal of the season as Cole provided the assist.
In the 67th minute, Vandervoort struck for the second time on the afternoon to extend Gordon's advantage to 4-0. Crocker picked up his second assist of the match on Vandervoort's 10th of the year.
The Lions got on the board in the 76th minute of play as Jacob Mason (Middletown, R.I.) buried his fourth goal of the season, converting a penalty kick for the second time this fall.
The home team responded with a goal to restore the gap to four, 5-1. Grant Stevens scored his first marker of the year in the 78th minute and Daniel Perez earned his first assist on the tally.
Gordon added a score in the 80th minute to stretch its lead to 6-1. Corey found the back of the net for the second time on the day while Perez collected his second helper of the game.
The Fighting Scots finished the match with a 23-4 advantage in shots while earning all 11 corner kicks awarded on the afternoon.
Jake Johnson (Mount Bethel, Pa.) stopped seven shots in goal for Eastern Nazarene before rookie Jameson MacFarland (Quincy, Mass.) made his second appearance of the season, playing the final 9:11 between the pipes.
