Men’s Soccer Drops Monday Night Match to Johnson & Wales, 4-1
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene men's soccer team suffered a 4-1 setback to Johnson & Wales Monday evening at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
The Lions dip to 1-6-0 overall while the Wildcats remain unbeaten at 7-0-1 on the year with the result.
Johnson & Wales opened the scoring early, getting on the board in the second minute of the match. Doug Kase netted his first goal of the season to give the visitors a 1-0 edge. O'Kyle Corridon sent a cross into the box from the right wing and a Lion defender headed the ball skyward. Kase raced into the box and volleyed a shot into the lower right corner of the cage.
The two teams each managed seven shots in the opening half while the Wildcats earned all four corner kicks awarded in the first frame.
Johnson & Wales tacked on its second goal of the contest to double its advantage to 2-0. Corridon headed home a cross from Kyle Metz in the 61st minute to notch his third of the year.
Eastern Nazarene cut the deficit in half in the 62nd minute, 2-1. Rookie Jacob Mason (Middletown, R.I.) converted a penalty kick to tally his third score of the season.
The Wildcats responded with their third goal of the night in the 68th minute of play. Scott Lopez fired a shot from 30 yards out into the top left corner of the goal to pick up his third of the season. Bob Zukofsky provided the assist on Lopez's tally, his first collegiate helper.
The visitors added a score in the 75th minute as Darrin Kaiser nodded a corner kick service by Metz into the back of the net. Kaiser's first marker of the season pushed Johnson & Wales' lead to 4-1.
The two sides each attempted eight shots in the second stanza as they finished the contest with 15 total shots. The visitors owned an 8-4 margin in corner kicks earned.
Junior Jake Johnson (Mount Bethel, Pa.) made one stop on the night for the home side. Ryan Dzierawski registered four saves in the game for the Wildcats.
