MILTON, Mass.- Despite an 18-save effort from goalkeeper Jake Johnson (Mount Bethel, Pa.), the Eastern Nazarene men's soccer team absorbed a 1-0 overtime-loss on the road at Curry Saturday afternoon. The Lions slip to 1-5-0 on the season and 0-2-0 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference. The Colonels improve to 4-2-1 on the season and 2-0-0 in league matches with the result.
The two teams headed into the halftime intermission deadlocked at 0-0. Curry owned a narrow 10-9 edge in shots and a 5-4 gap in corners through 45 minutes of play.
Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the second half, forcing overtime. The hosts fired 18 shots in the second stanza while the visitors managed three.
In overtime, Matt Cotnoir netted the game-winner in the 100th minute for Curry, his first tally of the season. Tim Stein picked up an assist on Cotnoir's golden goal.
The Colonels concluded the contest with a 35-13 margin in shots and an 11-4 advantage in corners earned.
Scott Hansen (Middletown Spring, Vt.) recorded a team-high five shots in the match for the Lions while Jacob Mason (Middletown, R.I.) fired four attempts.
Up next, Eastern Nazarene will host Johnson & Wales in a non-league bout September 23 at Veterans Memorial Stadium. The contest will mark the Lions' first home game since September 3 and just the squad's second home match of the season.
