BEVERLY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene men's soccer team endured a 2-0 setback on the road at Endicott Saturday in the first league match of the season. The Lions dip to 0-3-0 overall and 0-1-0 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference. The Gulls improve to 4-3-0 on the year and 1-0-0 in conference play with the result.
Endicott struck first with a goal in the 41st minute to seize a 1-0 edge. Alex Jorge tallied the Gulls' opening score as his shot hit the crossbar and caromed into the net. Brett Longobucco picked up an assist on Jorge's second marker of the season.
Eastern Nazarene fired five shots in the opening half while Endicott recorded 10. Each squad earned a pair of corner kicks in the first frame.
The hosts doubled their advantage to 2-0 early in the second half. Kyle Bisceglia collected his first goal of the season, heading in a free kick delivery by Alex Tonsberg in the 50th minute.
The visitors finished the game with 11 shots and six attempts on goal. Will Campbell (South Anchorage, Alaska) and Pacifique Jabiro (Portland, Maine) led the Lions with two shots on frame each in the contest.
The Gulls registered 21 shots on the day with 10 on target while also earning three second-half corner kicks to conclude the game with a 5-2 edge in corners.
Between the posts, junior Jake Johnson (Mount Bethel, Pa.) turned aside eight shots for Eastern Nazarene. Austin Peluso picked up his third win of the year in goal for Endicott as he made six saves in the match.
