Men’s Soccer Falls at Salve Regina in CCC Quarters, 3-0

NEWPORT, R.I.- The Eastern Nazarene men's soccer team suffered a 3-0 loss at Salve Regina in the Commonwealth Coast Conference quarterfinals Saturday afternoon.
The seventh-seeded Lions were eliminated from the CCC Tournament with the loss and slide to 7-9-2 on the year. The second-seeded Seahawks improved to 14-5-1 with the result and advance to the semifinals.
Neither squad found the back of the net in the first half as Salve Regina owned a 6-4 edge in shots.
The Seahawks netted their first goal of the game in the 59th minute as Brian Sweeney scored his first of the season to give the hosts a 1-0 edge. Devin L'Heureux and Bobby Ernst both picked up assists on Sweeney's score.
Salve Regina doubled its lead to 2-0 in the 67th minute on Jake Weinshank's first tally of the fall. Rainer Randell set up Weinshank for the goal to register a helper.
Andrew Chenard capped off the scoring in the match with his sixth goal of the year in the 80th minute. Kyle Knoth fed Chenard as the Seahawks stretched the margin to three goals.
Salve Regina finished the contest with 18 shots while Eastern Nazarene fired six.
Edgar Arceo (Minden, Nev.) paced the Lions with a pair of attempts, both of which were on frame.
Jake Johnson (Mount Bethel, Pa.) registered seven saves in goal for the Lions. Jared Egeler (Danbury, Conn.) stopped one shot in the cage for the visitors as he played the final nine minutes between the pipes.
Jeffrey L'Heureux made three saves in goal for the hosts to improve to 5-1-1 between the posts.
