SPRINGFIELD, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's soccer team conceded a 1-0 decision on the road at Western New England University Saturday afternoon.
The loss drops the Lions to 3-6-2 overall and 0-4-1 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference. The Golden Bears improved to 5-5-1 on the year and 2-1-0 in league play.
The hosts struck first as they seized a 1-0 lead in the 27th minute. Bobby Jameson notched his second goal of the season off of a feed from Dylan Ross.
Western New England owned a slight 6-5 edge in first-half shots and a 4-2 gap in corner kicks earned.
The Golden Bears nearly doubled their advantage in the waning minutes of the match as Shawn DaCruz rang a shot off of the post.
After outshooting Eastern Nazarene 6-3 in the second half, Western New England finished the contest with a 12-8 margin in shots.
William Campbell (Anchorage, Alaska) paced the visitors with three shots while Edgar Arceo (Minden, Nev.), Cameron McCormack (Griswold, Conn.) and Matt Nieto (Stanwood, Wash.) all registered shots on frame.
Sophomore goalkeeper Jake Johnson (Mount Bethel, Pa.) made five stops on the day for the Lions. Nick Starr recorded three saves between the pipes for the Golden Bears to earn the clean sheet.
Eastern Nazarene returns to action October 1 as it host Mount Ida at Veterans Memorial Stadium at 7 pm.
