Men’s Soccer Endures 4-0 Loss at Wentworth Saturday
BOSTON, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College men’s soccer team absorbed its third-straight loss Saturday afternoon, dropping a 4-0 setback to Wentworth at Sweeney Field.
BOSTON, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's soccer team absorbed its third-straight loss Saturday afternoon, dropping a 4-0 setback to Wentworth at Sweeney Field. The Lions sink to 2-4 overall and 0-3 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference with the result. The Leopards leap to 1-4-1 on the year and 1-0 in the league with the win.
The hosts got on the board early in the contest as Aaron Mackey buried his first of the season in the ninth minute. Mackey fired the ball into the left side of the cage off of corner kick service from Jake Buzzell to give Wentworth a 1-0 advantage.
The Leopards held onto the one-goal margin at the break while outshooting Eastern Nazarene 10-7. The home side also earned seven corner kicks and conceded just one in the opening stanza.
Wentworth tacked on its second score of the day in the 54th minute to grab a 2-0 lead. Mackey netted his second of the afternoon as his one-timer sailed into the upper left corner of the goal. Matt Racca picked up the assist on the tally.
The hosts padded their lead with a third goal in the 65th minute. Adam Rhodes notched his first tally of the year as he finished Jake Buzzell's corner kick feed.
The Leopards tacked on their fourth marker of the game with just 1:46 remaining in regulation. Daniel Cubelli registered his first goal of the fall as he fired a shot into the net from just inside the penalty area. Racca collected his second assist of the match on Cubelli's strike.
The Lions edged Wentworth with 17 shots compared to the home sides' 16. The visitors held a 10-6 advantage in second-half shots and a 2-1 gap in corner kicks in the final 45 minutes.
Scott Hansen (Middletown Springs, Vt.) paced the Lions with six shots in the game while Edgar Arceo (Minden, Nev.) added four.
Jake Johnson (Mount Bethel, Pa.) recorded three saves in goal for Eastern Nazarene on the day. John Longo stopped five shots between the posts for the Leopards.
Up next, the Lions travel to Regis September 17 for a non-conference bout.
