WESTON, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's soccer team dropped a 4-1 decision at Regis Monday afternoon in non-conference play on the road. The Lions slide to 2-5 overall with their fourth-straight loss Monday. The Pride improves to 2-5 as it snapped a three-game skid with the win.
The visitors recorded the game's first three chances and just missed netting an early goal as Scott Hansen (Middletown Springs, Vt.) barely missed scoring his first marker of the season. The sophomore rang a shot off of the post in the 16th minute as the match remained scoreless.
On just their second shot of the contest, Regis nearly found the back of the net. Chris Millington's header in the 39th minute caromed off the frame and away from the cage as the score stayed knotted at 0-0.
The hosts broke the deadlock with 2:22 left to play in the first half. Christian Mukala potted his second goal of the season to put the Pride up 1-0. A long throw-in sent into the box by Alex Caliendo was deflected by Mukala and into the net.
Despite trailing 1-0 at halftime, the Lions sported a 6-3 advantage in shots through 45 minutes while earning the lone corner kick in the opening stanza.
Regis added its second goal of the match in the 50th minute as Dillon Lanctot notched his first goal of the year. After a turnover by the Lions, Renato Rosas fed Lanctot in the penalty area and the rookie blasted a shot into the far side of the net.
Lanctot tallied his second marker of the day in the 54th minute to stretch the home team's lead to 3-0. Mukala slotted a through ball behind the defense for the freshman to run onto. Lanctot slipped the ball past Eastern Nazarene's goalkeeper and into the goal.
Eastern Nazarene narrowed the deficit to two, 3-1, just 20 seconds later as Ryan Piesco (Duxbury, Mass.) buried his first collegiate goal. Piesco settled a loose ball and fired a shot into the cage to get the Lions on the board.
The Pride reestablished their three-goal margin in the 62nd minute. Jeff Parrish picked up his second tally of the fall by deflecting a throw-in by Caliendo into the goal.
Josh Kaplan (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) nearly scored his team-leading fourth goal of the season for the Lions in the 76th minute but saw his header bounce off of the woodwork and out of harm's way.
The Lions finished the match with 19 shots while allowing eight by Regis. The visitors also owned a 7-2 gap in corner kicks at full time.
Sophomore Jake Johnson (Mount Bethel, Pa.) made one save in goal for the Lions. Stefan Todorovic stopped nine shots between the pipes for the hosts.
Eastern Nazarene returns home to battle Becker in non-league action at Veterans Memorial Stadium September 19. The match is the Lions' second home contest of the 2012 campaign.
