Bernie McGuinness Named NECC Men’s Basketball Co-Player of the Year, Logan Sharp Voted Co-Coach of the Year
MANSFIELD, Mass.- Sophomore Bernie McGuiness (Cumming, Ga.) of the Eastern Nazarene College men's basketball team was tabbed the New England Collegiate Conference Co-Player of the Year while first-year head coach Logan Sharp was voted Co-Coach of the Year, announced the league office Wednesday. Graduate student Ozzy Traill III was also selected to the NECC Del Malloy Sportsmanship Team.
McGuinness shared NECC Player of the Year honors with New England College's Calvin Cheek and was also selected to the All-NECC team. Sharp and Mitchell head coach Todd Peretz were voted Co-Coach of the Year by their peers.
McGuinness ranked second in the conference with 19.4 points per game and 8.2 rebounds per contest this season. He paced the league with a field-goal percentage of 54.2% while his 44.8% three-point shooting clip ranked second. In conference action, the sophomore poured in 21.3 points per game and added 8.0 boards per game.
Sharp guided Eastern Nazarene to a 13-11 overall record and a share of the NECC regular-season title with a 4-2 league mark. The Lions emerged as the No. 1 seed in the NECC Tournament and will face fourth-seeded Lesley in the semifinals Wednesday evening at the Lahue Athletic Center.
Traill appeared in 22 games and made 20 starts while averaging 7.2 points per game, 4.1 rebounds per contest, and 3.9 assists per game.
