Men’s Hoops Dealt 97-85 Loss at Gordon Thursday
WENHAM, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's basketball team dropped a 97-85 decision at Gordon Thursday evening in the 136th all-time meeting between the two teams.
The Lions slip to 5-6 on the year with the setback while the Fighting Scots improve to 3-2 overall.
Corey McGhee (Alexandria, Va.) posted his first double-double of the season, netting a game-high 19 points and hauling in 12 rebounds. Ka'Shaun Swan (Lawrenceville, Ga.) poured in 16 points off the bench. Bernie McGuinness (Cumming, Ga.) finished with 13 points while Levi Grady-White (Springfield, Mass.) added 11 points. Pat Taylor (Lakeland, Fla.) registered nine points and seven assists.
The hosts snagged a 22-10 advantage with 10:20 left to play in the first half on a dunk by David Massilon.
Gordon sported a 45-33 lead at the halftime stoppage after shooting 8-for-20 from beyond the arc in the opening frame while limiting Eastern Nazarene to just one made three-pointer on 10 tries.
The visitors trimmed the deficit to 65-51 with 10:11 remaining in the second stanza as Deonta Pearson (Westland, Mich.) banked in a layup.
The Fighting Scots responded with six-consecutive points to reclaim a double-digit edge, 71-61, with 8:20 on the clock.
Gordon maintained a double-figure advantage throughout the remainder of the contest to lock up its second non-conference win of the campaign.
The Lions finished with a field-goal percentage of 43.7% to go with a 25% clip from behind the three-point line. The Fighting Scots shot 42.5% from the floor and connected on 13-of-32 from three-point range.
Garrett Sattazahn scored a team-high 18 points for the home side while Parker Omslaer tallied 15 points and Bryce Smith chipped in with 14 points. Michael Makiej and Massilon each recorded 12 points on the night.
Up next, Eastern Nazarene will host UMass-Boston in a non-league matchup December 11.
