Women’s Volleyball Draws Tufts in NCAA Tournament Debut
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.- The New England Collegiate Conference champion Eastern Nazarene College women's volleyball team will face No. 14 Tufts in its first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance Friday, November 15. The NCAA announced the 64-team field Monday afternoon.
The Lions sport a 17-6 overall record and finished the regular season with an unblemished 7-0 mark in conference action.
Sophomore Ruth Aguilar (Tegucigalpa, Honduras) was tabbed the NECC Player of the Year and NECC Tournament Most Valuable Player this fall. The All-NECC first team selection paces Eastern Nazarene with 279 kills on the year to go with 232 assists, 209 digs, and 42 aces. She ranks in the top 10 in NCAA Division III with five triple-doubles on the season.
Courtney McCarthy (Merrimack, N.H.) joined Aguilar on the All-NECC first team while Halle Julian (Whitman, Mass.) and Rebecca Thorne (Quincy, Mass.) were named to the All-NECC second team. McCarthy and Jessica Caldwell (Quincy, Mass.) were also selected to the NECC All-Tournament Team.
Eastern Nazarene edged Mitchell in five sets to advance to the NECC Tournament championship match for the second-straight year. The top-seeded Lions downed New England College 3-1 to clinch their first-ever NECC title.
The Jumbos claimed the NESCAC championship and sports a 27-1 record on the year.
