Women’s Volleyball Rallies Past Regis, Sweeps Framingham State at ENC Invitational

QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's volleyball team wrapped up the ENC Invitational presented by Rockport Inn & Suites with a pair of victories Saturday at the Lahue Physical Education Center. The Lions erased a two-set deficit to down Regis in five sets before rolling to a 3-0 win over Framingham State.

The Lions improve to 2-3 on the fall with the wins. The Pride falls to 1-2 overall while the Rams slip to 1-3 on the year.

Ruth Aguilar (Tegucigalpa, Honduras) posted a pair of double-doubles on the day, racking up a team-best 39 kills and 29 digs to go with six service aces and four blocks. Courtney McCarthy (Merrimack, N.H.) also notched two double-doubles on the afternoon, collecting 23 kills and 27 digs. Halle Julian (Whitman, Mass.) tallied a career-best 15 kills in the victory over Regis and finished the day with 22 kills and eight blocks.

Samantha Caldwell (Quincy, Mass.) dished out 78 assists in the two matches and registered 24 digs. Rebecca Thorne (Quincy, Mass.) chipped in with 13 kills on the day while Amya Altman (Butler, Pa.) recorded 24 digs and Jaclyn Teed (Lansdale, Pa.) added six blocks.

In Saturday's matinee matchup, Eastern Nazarene clawed past Regis in a five-set thriller.

The Pride edged the Lions 25-23 in the first set to claim a 1-0 lead in the match before doubling their advantage with a 25-20 win in the second frame.

The hosts battled back to capture the third game 25-9, cutting the deficit to 2-1. Eastern Nazarene kept the momentum going into the fourth set, prevail 25-17 to level the match at 2-2.

In the deciding fifth set, the Lions cruised to a 15-5 decision to clinch their first victory of the 2019 campaign.

Eastern Nazarene capped off the weekend with a three-set sweep of Framingham State.

The Lions clipped the Rams 25-22 in the opening set to establish a 1-0 lead.

Eastern Nazarene widened the gap to 2-0 after triumphing 25-15 in the second frame.

The hosts breezed by Framingham State 25-7 in the third set to seal the win.

The University of New England also picked up a pair of wins on day two of the ENC Invitational to improve to 5-1 on the season. The Nor'easters topped Framingham State 3-0 before blanking Regis 3-0.

Katie Flynn paced the University of New England with 18 kills while Molly Camelo added 15 kills. Sydney Christiansen registered 54 assists and Katie March finished with 34 digs.

The Rams were led by Hailey Sanders with 17 kills while Anna Szymanski chipped in with 14 kills ont eh day. Morgan Failla tallied 21 assists and Natalie Reed contributed 20 assists.

Katryna Veasey notched a team-high 18 kills on the afternoon for Regis while Julia Pelland posted 14 kills and Tori Ondris dealt 38 assists.
