Women’s Tennis Scores 6-3 Victory at Salve Regina
NEWPORT, R.I.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's tennis team secured a 6-3 win at Salve Regina Monday afternoon.
The Lions improve to 8-2 on the year with the victory while the Seahawks fall to 1-6 overall.
Emily Ruttkowski (Castrop-Rauxel, Germany) and Magdalena Hubel (Berlin, Germany) topped Shealyn FitzPatrick and Lauren Harvey 8-4 at the No. 1 doubles position.
Sharon Biondi (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) and Veronica Jimenez (Lynn, Mass.) rolled past Lily Gorman and Annemarie Haas at the second spot, 8-2.
Maria Busila (Malaga, Spain) and Makayla Grantham (Apalachian, N.Y.) suffered an 8-2 setback at the third slot to Laura Krick and Makenzie Sadler.
Eastern Nazarene notched four singles wins to secure its fourth-straight victory.
Biondi cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 win at the top singles position over Harvey to net her fourth victory in a row.
Ruttkowski breezed by Sadler 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 2 slot to climb to 10-0 on the season in singles action.
Jimenez edged Krick at the fourth spot 7-5, 6-4 to claim her fifth-consecutive singles win.
Busila earned a 6-1, 6-2 victory at the No. 5 position over Haas to tally her fifth win in a row.
Hubel fell to Casey Farrell in a third-set super-tiebreaker at the No. 3 spot. Hubel captured the first set 6-4 before Farrell responded with a 6-4 win in the second frame. In the super-tiebreaker, Farrell clipped Hubel 10-4.
Grantham dropped a 6-0, 6-1 decision to Gorman at the sixth position.
Up next, Eastern Nazarene returns to conference competition October 5 at home against Simmons.
