Women’s Tennis Falls at Johnson & Wales 5-4
PROVIDENCE, R.I.- In a showdown between the top two teams in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC), the Eastern Nazarene College women's tennis team suffered a narrow 5-4 loss at Johnson & Wales (R.I.) Saturday.
The Lions slip to 4-2 on the season and 2-1 in the GNAC with the setback. The Wildcats remain undefeated on the year at 7-0 overall with a 4-0 mark in league action.
The guests fell behind 2-1 after doubles play.
Emily Ruttkowski (Castrop-Rauxel, Germany) and Magdalena Hubel (Berlin, Germany) picked up Eastern Nazarene's lone doubles win, capturing the tandem's fourth victory at the top doubles position.
The two squads halved the six singles matches as Johnson & Wales secured its seventh-straight victory.
Ruttkowski, Maria Busila (Malaga, Spain), and Veronica Jimenez (Lynn, Mass.) each notched singles wins for the Lions.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene will look to snap its two-match skid as it host the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) September 24.
