Women’s Tennis Drops 7-2 Decision to Nichols
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's tennis team suffered its first loss of the season Thursday, falling to Nichols 7-2 in non-conference action at the ENC Tennis Courts.
The Lions slip to 4-1 on the year with the result while the Bison improve to 4-1 overall.
Sharon Biondi (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) and Veronica Jimenez (Lynn, Mass.) edged Juliana Herrera and Megan Nathanson 8-7 at the second doubles spot.
Emily Ruttkowski (Castrop-Rauxel, Germany) and Magdalena Hubel (Berlin, Germany) absorbed an 8-2 loss at the top doubles position to Isabelle Leonardi and Amarie Settiwongse.
Maria Busila (Malaga, Spain) and Makayla Grantham (Apalachian, N.Y.) endured an 8-1 setback at the No. 3 slot to Kara Stankewitz and Lindsey Kaplan.
Ruttkowski tallied the home team's lone singles victory on the day, prevailing at the No. 2 position 6-4, 7-5 over Stankewitz to improve to 5-0 in singles play on the season.
Biondi fell in a three-set battle at the top spot against Settiwongse. After Biondi captured the first set 6-4, Settiwongse claimed the second frame 7-6 before triumphing 10-5 in a third-set super-tiebreaker.
Hubel dropped a 6-3, 6-1 decision at the No. 3 position to Nathanson while Busila absorbed a 6-1, 6-1 setback against Herrera in the fourth singles match.
Jimenez fell 6-4, 6-1 at the No. 5 slot to Kaplan and Grantham suffered a 6-0, 6-0 loss at the No. 6 spot to Leonardi.
