Women’s Soccer Drops Monday Night Matchup to Johnson & Wales
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's soccer team fell to Johnson & Wales 3-0 Monday evening at Veterans' Memorial Stadium.
The Lions dip to 0-2-0 on the season with the loss while the Wildcats improve to 2-0-0 overall with the result.
The visitors tallied the match's opening goal in the 29th minute as Olivia Cairrao netted her fourth score of the season, finishing a free kick served into the box by Kali Trunca.
Johnson & Wales widened the margin to 2-0 in the 30th minute. Kyra Selner buried a loose ball inside the box to pick up her first marker of the year.
Eastern Nazarene attempted three shots in the first half while the Wildcats produced 13 shots.
The guests tacked on their third goal of the contest moments into the second stanza. Cairrao notched her fifth tally of the fall as she laced a loose ball inside the right post.
Johnson & Wales added a score in the 57th minute to push its advantage to 4-0 as Deja Hursey collected her third goal of the season.
The Wildcats extended their lead to 5-0 as Hursey found the back of the net for the second time on the night in the 66th minute.
The visitors stretched the gap to 6-0 as Jaclyn Larsen found Wendy Menchu-Lopez unmarked at the top of the box. Menchu-Lopez blasted a right-footed shot into the cage to record her first tally of the season in the 80th minute of play.
The Lions finished the match with eight shots while Johnson & Wales fired 29 on the night. Kelly Couite (West Bridgewater, Mass.), Sam Bernardi (Longmeadow, Mass.) and Diamond Best (Danvers, Mass.) led the home side with two attempts each.
In her first collegiate start between the posts, Michaela Connors (Norwell, Mass.) registered six saves for the Lions.
