Women’s Basketball Stifles Dean to Claim 14th-Straight Win, 72-35
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's basketball team posted a 72-35 victory over Dean Wednesday evening at the Lahue Physical Education Center to extend its winning-streak to 14-consecutive games.
The Lions rise to 15-1 on the season with the win and remain atop the New England Collegiate Conference standings with an 8-0 mark. The Bulldogs slip to 3-13 overall and 2-6 in league action with the result.
Nahatabaa Nacona (Chinle, Ariz.) scored a team-best 15 points off the bench and dished out three assits. Stevie Orton (Gilford, N.H.) finished with 11 points and three boards. Seniesha Sekaquaptewa (Second Mesa, Ariz.) notched 10 points, five assists, and three rebounds. Kyra Fleharty (Lewistown, Mont.) chipped in with seven points, four rebounds, four steals, and a pair of blocks.
The hosts snagged a six-point lead with 4:29 left to play in the opening quarter on a fast-break layup by Jenn Burnham (West Valley City, Utah), 11-5.
Eastern Nazarene clung to a 19-14 edge heading into the second frame.
The Lions erupted for 26 points in the second period while limiting Dean to just seven points.
Eastern Nazarene strung together a 9-0 run to widen the margin to 13 points with 3:41 remaining in the second quarter, 31-18.
the home team closed out the frame with eight unanswered points to boast a 45-21 advantage at the halftime break.
Eastern Nazarene posted a field-goal percentage of 51.5% in the first half while connecting on 5-of-14 from the perimeter. Dean shot 31% from the floor and 16.7% from beyond the arc in the opening two quarters.
Nacona poured in a team-high 12 points off the bench in the first half while Sekaquaptewa netted eight points and Orton tallied seven.
The Lions expanded their lead to 30 with 2:40 to go in the third quarter on a trey by Nacona, 55-25.
The hosts touted a 60-30 lead through three quarters of play.
Eastern Nazarene opened the fourth period with 10-straight points to stretch its advantage to 70-30 with 6:46 remaining in regulation.
The Lions shot 41.8% from the floor and 31% from behind the arc on the night. The Bulldogs concluded the contest with a field-goal percentage of 28.3% while draining just 2-of-13 from three-point range.
Makayla Rudder paced Dean with 22 points and eight rebounds while Alexah Potter added 11 rebounds and three blocks.
