Women’s Basketball Cruises to 90-50 Victory at Pine Manor
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's basketball team breezed by Pine Manor 90-50 Tuesday afternoon in non-conference play.
The Lions improve to 4-1 on the season with the win while the Gators dip to 1-4 overall.
Stevie Orton (Gilford, N.H.) notched her second-straight double-double, netting 15 points and grabbing 11 rebounds to lead the visitors. Jenn Burnham (West Valley City, Utah) posted 14 points, four steals, and four boards. Morgan Vurek (Daly City, Calif.) tallied a season-best 12 points off the bench. Shante Slender (Kayenta, Ariz.) chipped in with eight points and five rebounds while Sydni Oviatt (Fruit Heights, Utah) added eight points and four boards. Seniesha Sekaquaptewa (Second Mesa, Ariz.) finished with seven points and nine rebounds.
After the two teams traded buckets to open the contest, Eastern Nazarene constructed an eight-point advantage with 4:40 left to play in the first quarter as Burnham drained a three-pointer, 12-4.
The home side cut the deficit to 12-10 with less than a minute remaining in the opening frame on a layup by Mandy Mastropasqua.
The Lions responded with a trey by Vurek to sport a 15-10 edge heading into the second period.
Eastern Nazarene chalked up back-to-back baskets to claim a 19-10 lead early in the second quarter.
Pine Manor trimmed the margin to 30-26 with 53 seconds remaining in the first half on a layup by Kierra Jackson.
The visitors tallied the final five points of the second frame to hold a 35-26 advantage at the break.
Eastern Nazarene widened the gap to 23 points with 2:47 to go in the third as Shannon Chau (San Francisco, Calif.) and Kyra Fleharty (Lewistown, Mont.) splashed three-pointers, 59-36.
The guests closed out a 38-point third frame with an 11-0 run to own a 73-41 lead through three periods.
The Lions outscored the hosts 17-9 in the fourth quarter to claim their seventh-straight victory over the Gators.
Eastern Nazarene shot 45% from the floor and 36.4% from beyond the arc on the day. Pine Manor finished with a field-goal percentage of 32.1% while connecting on just 3-of-17 from three-point range.
Courtney Foley paced the Gators with 15 points while Jackson netted 14 points and Mastropasqua recorded 13 points.
