Women’s Basketball Powers Past Lesley, 89-52
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's basketball team earned a wire-to-wire 89-52 victory over Lesley Thursday evening at the Lahue Physical Education Center.
The Lions advance to 6-3 on the season with the win while the Lynx slip to 0-9 overall.
Stella Dulay (Santa Marita, Calif.) poured in a career-high 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds off the bench. Shelby Holmes (Seeley Lake, Mont.) netted 13 points and gathered five boards. Anessa Rippie (Marlton, N.J.) posted 11 points and Alyssa Cosio Murillo (Santa Barbara, Calif.) finished with 10 points.
The hosts sported a 14-6 advantage through 10 minutes of action after Holmes splashed a three-pointer with 28 seconds remaining in the first period.
Eastern Nazarene widened the gap to 20 with 4:20 left to play in the second quarter on a bucket by Jenna Meacham, 32-12.
The Lions carried a 36-15 lead into the halftime intermission after narrowly outscoring the visitors 4-3 in the final 3:16 of the second.
Eastern Nazarene shot 42.9% from the floor and drained 4-of-7 three-point attempts in the first half. Lesley was limited to just 19.4% field-goal shooting in the opening two quarters.
Holmes paced the Lions with 11 first-half point while Seniesha Sekaquaptewa (Scottsdale, Ariz.) notched six points, five rebounds, and three steals.
The home team chalked up 34 points in the third frame to extend its lead to 70-31 heading to the fourth.
Eastern Nazarene stretched the margin to 45 points with 3:25 left to play in regulation on a three-point play by Rippie, 85-40.
The Lions finished with a field-goal percentage of 54.0% and connected on 11-of-20 attempts from beyond the arc. The Lynx shot 28.6% on the night to go with 17.4% shooting from long distance.
Elizabeth Portante scored 14 points and added seven rebounds to lead Lesley while Theresa Pereira chipped in with 13 points.
