Softball Earns Doubleheader Split at Roger Williams

BRISTOL, R.I.- The Eastern Nazarene College softball team dropped a 2-1 decision before claiming a 6-5 win at Roger Williams Friday afternoon.

GAME ONE
THE BASICS:
Score: Eastern Nazarene 1, Roger Williams 2
Records: Lions (4-9) | Hawks (5-9)


HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Roger Williams seized a 1-0 edge with one run in the bottom of the first inning.
• The Hawks added one run in the second to double their advantage to 2-0.
• Eastern Nazarene tallied a run in the top of the sixth to cut the deficit to 2-1. Alex Schwenger (Danville, Calif.) laced a double down the left field line to drive in Danielle Maliszewski (Torrington, Conn.) from second base.
  

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

• Alex Schwenger (Danville, Calif.) notched one base hit and one RBI.
• Danielle Maliszewski (Torrington, Conn.) posted one hit, one run scored, and one stolen base.
• Bailey Olaveson (Lakeside, Calif.) chipped in with one base knock.
• Jennelle Munoz (Lake Elsinore, Calif.) threw a complete game in the pitcher's circle and finished with one strikeout.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Roger Williams picked up a run in the bottom of the first to snag a 1-0 lead.
• Eastern Nazarene produced a pair of runs in the top of the third inning to jump ahead 2-1. Taylor Brandt (Napa, Calif.) and Bailey Olaveson (Lakeside, Calif.) chalked up RBI singles as Alex Schwenger (Danville, Calif.) and Taylor Brandt (Napa, Calif.) both crossed the dish in the frame.
• The Hawks manufactured three runs in the fourth to capture a 4-2 advantage.
• The Lions bounced back to plate three runs in the fifth frame to reclaim a one-run edge, 5-4. Mackenzie Murray (Lakeville, Mass.) scampered home from second as Taylor Brandt (Napa, Calif.) reached on a fielder's choice. Caoimhe Wernsing (Brockton, Mass.) roped a two-out double to left-centerfield to knock in Bailey Olaveson (Lakeside, Calif.) and Taylor Brandt (Napa, Calif.).
• Eastern Nazarene tacked on a run in the seventh to widen the margin to 6-4. Bailey Olaveson (Lakeside, Calif.) scorched a base hit up the middle to drive in Taylor Brandt (Napa, Calif.).
• Roger Williams scored once in the home half of the seventh as the visitors held on for the narrow 6-5 victory.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

• Taylor Brandt (Napa, Calif.) finished with three runs scored, two hits, one RBI, and a stolen base.
• Bailey Olaveson (Lakeside, Calif.) recorded two hits, two RBIs, and one run scored.

• Alexys Giddings (Kuna, Idaho) tossed four innings in her fourth start of season to pick up the win. Morgan Bruner (Litchfield, N.H.) worked three innings in her third relief appearance to earn her first collegiate save.
