Softball Triumphs Twice at Regis Thursday
WESTON, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College softball team earned a pair of non-conference victories at Regis Thursday evening, prevailing 8-0 and 6-4.
The Lions climb to 15-15 overall with the wins while the Pride dips to 9-19 on the year.
Aurora Adams (Fullerton, Calif.) notched four hits, three RBIs, and one run scored in the series. Alexys Giddings (Kuna, Idaho) landed four base knocks and scored one run. Kiley Ozaki (Ewa Beach, Hawaii) finished with three hits, three RBIs, and a pair of runs scored. Danielle Maliszewski (Torrington, Conn.) posted three hits and drove in three RBIs. Taylor Brandt (Napa, Calif.) contributed with three hits, three runs scored, and one RBI.
In game one, Eastern Nazarene blanked Regis 8-0 in six innings.
The Lions chalked up two runs in the top of the first inning to claim an early 2-0 lead. Alex Schwenger (Danville, Calif.) crossed the dish as Darcy Castro (Garden Grove, Calif.) reached on an error. Ozaki laced a double to right field to drive in Castro from second base.
Eastern Nazarene doubled its advantage to 4-0 with a pair of runs in the third. Ozaki roped a two-out single to left-centerfield to score Brandt. Adams followed with a double to left field to knock in Ozaki all the way from first base.
The visitors tacked on three runs in the fifth to widen the gap to 7-0. Adams lasered a base knock to right field to plate Castro. Maliszewski scorched a single to centerfield to drive in Adams and Ozaki.
The Lions added a run in the sixth to stretch their lead to 8-0. Brandt tagged up and scampered home from third base on a sacrifice fly by Adams.
Chelsea De Martini (Budd Lake, N.J.) pitched a complete-game shutout and registered one strikeout while scattering five hits and zero walks.
In the nightcap, Eastern Nazarene held off Regis to secure a 6-4 win.
The Lions tallied a run in the top of the first inning to seize a 1-0 edge. Ozaki roped a one-out single to centerfield to drive in Brandt.
The guests scored twice in the second to extend their lead to 3-0. Schwenger and Bailey Olaveson (Lakeside, Calif.) laced RBI doubles to plate Daitriana Gongora (Bridgeport, Conn.) and Schwenger.
Eastern Nazarene posted one run in the fourth to push the margin to 4-0. Brandt doubled to the gap in right-centerfield to knock in Schwenger.
The Lions chalked up a pair of runs in the fifth inning to widen the gap to 6-0. Maliszewski bounced a single back up the middle to drive in Madison Murray (Lakeville, Mass.). Gongora notched her first collegiate RBI with a sacrifice fly to plate Giddings.
The home team got on the board in the bottom of the fifth, generating four runs to cut the deficit to 6-4.
In the pitcher's circle, Giddings tossed 4.2 innings and recorded two strikeouts in her fourth start. De Martini worked two innings in her third relief appearance and fanned one batter. Jennelle Munoz (Lake Elsinore, Calif.) retired the only batter she faced to slam the door and pick up her first save of the year.
