
Softball Eliminated From CCC Tournament with 7-2 Loss to Roger Williams
SPRINGFIELD, Mass.- The No. 6 seed Eastern Nazarene College softball team dropped a 7-2 decision to fifth-seeded Roger Williams Thursday in the Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament.
The Lions finish the season with a 16-25 overall record while the Hawks improve to 22-18on the year.
Lauren Clements (Garrison, Texas) led the way with a two-run home run while Lauren Weidler (Lansdale, Pa.) added a hit and a run scored. Becky Bahr (Brentwood, N.Y.) and Heidi Gomez (Floral Park, N.Y.) also landed base hits in the game.
Roger Williams scored twice in the bottom of the second inning to establish a 2-0 lead. Meghan Maliga and Valerie Moran notched back-to-back RBI singles.
The Hawks tacked on a run in the third to increase their advantage to 3-0. Mikaela Grosso laced a single to left field to drive in Meredith Moise from third.
Roger Williams manufactured four runs in the fourth inning to widen the gap to 7-0. Taylor Messier plated Julianne Vesce with an infield hit and Haley Ledbetter followed with a two-run single to the gap in left-center to score Messier and Moran. Moise tagged up and sprinted home on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Grosso.
Eastern Nazarene got on the board in the top of the seventh, cutting the deficit to 7-2. After Weidler led off the frame with a base knock, Clements launched her sixth home run of the season down the left field line.
Heidi Gomez tossed 3.1 innings in her 19th start of the spring and Meghan Stanley (Bedford, Mass.) worked 2.2 innings of relief.
