Men’s Tennis Stumbles at Babson, 9-0
BABSON PARK, Mass.- The reigning GNAC champion Eastern Nazarene College men's tennis team absorbed a 9-0 setback at Babson Tuesday afternoon.
The Lions fall to 0-3 on the year with the result while the Beavers improve to 1-0 overall.
Henry Siercke (Hamburg, Germany) and Mecena Salles (Maraba, Brazil) dropped an 8-1 decision at the top doubles spot to Maxwell Conlin and Markus Nordby.
Alex Partyka (Moscow, Russia) and Diego Rodriguez (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) fell to Chris Kolesnik and Jason Weisman 8-2 at the No. 2 position.
Julius Opaschowski (Hamburg, Germany) and Sven Grunenwald (Winden, Germany) suffered an 8-2 setback at the No. 3 slot to Andre Libnic and Tyler Zhang.
In a closely-contested No. 1 singles match, Siercke narrolwy fell in a third-set super-tiebreaker to Conlin. After dropping the first frame 6-1, Siercke bounced back to claim the second set 7-5. In the super-tiebreaker, Conlin edged Siercke 12-10.
Salles endured a 6-2, 6-4 loss at the No. 2 spot to Libnic while Opaschowski suffered a 6-1, 6-2 setback at the third slot to Weisman.
Rodriguez fell 6-4, 6-4 to Sebastian Bucarion at the No. 4 position while Kyle Pierson (Redding, Calif.) and Grunenwald both absorbed straight-set losses at the fifth and sixth spots, respectively.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene will close out the fall slate October 1 at NCAA Division I Holy Cross.
